Afghanistan National Cricket Team

Afghanistan National Cricket Team

Cricket found its way into Afghanistan in the early 2000s, primarily through refugees who had been exposed to the sport in Pakistan. Please refer to cricket exchange. The Afghan refugees returning home brought cricket with them, laying the foundation for its growth in the country. Afghanistan became an Affiliate member of the ICC in 2001. They became Associate and Full members in 2013 and 2017, respectively. They are one of the most exciting cricket-playing nations right now.

Afghanistan’s cricket team quickly ascended the ranks in international cricket. Their performances in ICC World Twenty20 tournaments and ICC Cricket World Cups brought them recognition and respect for their talent and competitive spirit. In 2017, Afghanistan achieved a significant milestone by attaining Test status from the ICC, becoming the newest Test-playing nation. Their inaugural Test match against India in 2018 was a historic moment, symbolizing their journey to cricket’s highest level.
